Research

SMART lab's research is focused on development of advance healthcare solutions to treat and regenerate damaged and diseased tissues. Our research area include regenerative medicine approach where we explore oxygen, biomaterials and exosomes for regeneration in cardiovascular and diabetic conditions. We also design and develop nanotherapeutics and immunotherapeutic materials to treat diabetes, cancer and lung diseases.

Oxygen Therapeutics

Oxygen is essential element of life. We are using biomaterial based approaches to delivery oxygen for therapeutic applications. We design materials in form of scaffolds, films, particles  and biomimetics to carry and produce oxygen.

Exosome Engineering

Exosomes are the new dawn of biomedical sciences. They tiny sacs secreted by almost every cell have gained importance in disease treatment, diagnosis and drug delivery. We use stem cell derived exosome for regeneration of tissues. We also engineer these exosomes to carry different molecules, target specific cells and develop a personalized medicine approach

Immunomodulation

We envisage to develop immunomodulatory therapies using biomaterials, exosomes and immune cells to treat cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and diabetic complications and cancer.

Advanced Biomaterials

We synthesize and functionalize new polymeric biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. We are working on development of cardiac patches for cardiac regeneration. These  patches are in the form of thin scaffolds, films, injectable and adhesive gels along with stem cells and exosomes. We want to make them "off the shelf" and "minimally invasive" in nature. We are also developing advanced dressing materials for treatment of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs)
